The Wise Wins Souls

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he who wins souls is wise (Proverbs 11:30)

Jody opened her home to a family of Kurds coming from northern Iraq, expecting about about five or six in the family. What a shocker it was when they arrived and had seventeen children and adults with a father, the patriarch of the family, who was a 104 years old. But Jody quickly adjusted and found other places to house some of them. She ministered to their needs and shared Jesus with them.

Shortly after their arrival, the father had a major heart attack. He desired to go back to his homeland to die. The doctor diagnosed that he wouldn’t live very long. Jody instead was praying for his healing and shared this desire with his family.Three days later he walked out of the hospital, healed by the touch of Jesus! It was an amazing testimony to everyone. Soon after, the the patriarch father accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.

If you have won a person to Christ, you already know the joy it brings. If you have not, I want to share one, out of my many ways, that will help you share Jesus.

First, find a way to begin sharing with a story, question or quotation that is comfortable with you. One person I heard about asked this question, “Do you believe in Easter?” If they say they do, the next question was, “What do you believe about Easter?” This opened up the way to share why Jesus died.

Second, before we can sow the seed, we have to equip ourselves with scriptures that will help people to understand the gospel story.  Memorized scripture can be shared by quoting it, giving it in a summary form or even with a gospel tract. Here are a few important scriptures you will want to use:

We are all sinners-Romans 3:23; the wages of sin is death-Romans 6:23; God loved us so much He sent His Son-John 3:15-16; salvation does not come through our good deeds-Ephesians 2:8-9; no one can come to the Father except through Jesus-John 14:6; Jesus stands at our hearts door knocking-Revelation 3:20; we confess with our mouth-Romans 10:9-10.

Third, but not really last, is prayer. It prepares the heart to receive. Pray before you speak and after you share Jesus. Instead of walking past people pray for open opportunities. Jesus taught, “Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven” (Matthew 10:32).

Invite them to church. When over 14,000 people were asked, “What or who was responsible for you coming to church, or to Jesus,” an overwhelmingly 75-90 percent came because a friend or relative invited them. We shuffle on in this life disregaring open opportunities. Recall to memory Christ death and give hope to the lost. Challenge yourself: the wise win souls.

Prayer: Father give me a burden for the unsaved and boldness to speak to them about You. Help me to create a way to speak for You. In Jesus name, amen.
