A Favorite Pick

You may get to be the favorite Pick. Are you one?

Finding yourself in competition with twenty-five others in a room, you hear your name announced as the grand prizewinner. Wow! Did I hear my name called? What jubilation! I am the favorite pick.

Known only by her family and friends, this discreet young woman was told she was a favorite pick. Her name was Mary. She was amazed and puzzled when an angel appeared and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored by God” (Luke 1:28). Mary, saw herself as ordinary, but God knew different and He noticed.

When God was looking for a young woman to give birth to His son, He looked at the heart first and noticed Mary’s desire for Him. Although the account of Mary’s story does not offer many details, her conversation with the angel reveals more. It tells us she was so favored, or acceptable in God’s sight, she would have the awesome privilege of bearing Jesus, God’s Son.

Do you ever have the perception God, who is way up there “somewhere” in the heavenly as we might think, does not care about you or He isn’t even aware of you?

Each one of us is a favorite pick of God’s, intention for a special purpose in this life. You might not bear His Son, or be His earthly father, but He desires you to know you are favored and He dearly loves you.

Mary’s reply was, “I belong to the Lord, body and soul, let it happen as you say” (Luke 1:38 Phillips translation). Mary simply accepted God’s plan without a doubt or argument.

There’s more to life than hurrying off to work, shuffling kids to school, or trying to be a super person. If you have accepted Christ and have made a personal commitment to Him, then you belong to Him. Can you say like Mary, “I belong to you Lord, body and soul, let it happen as you say?” Go ahead, include your name, I did then get to know His wisdom more by doing what He has said.

There are blessings in accepting God’s plan. The angel spoke, “Blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord” (Luke 1:45 RSV). Don’t fear His plan for you because you too are His favorite pick.
