Don’t Jump Yet

I want to jump off planet earth. Our country has been swiftly losing its moral compass, and here is why our society, like previous cultures, is headed toward destruction.

Many in America do not understand the Bible’s moral code on which our nation was founded. This moral code was to be shared with every generation so each could know and live by these lifesaving guidelines. God never meant for us to daily decide our own direction. He wants to come along beside us to direct and lead us in His wisdom and purpose for our lives.

So what happened? We cannot guess our own way through life and think we will have a blessed life. Knowing history should keep us from repeating past mistakes. Some people will still be undecided at their last breath. My oldest sister did that; I hope you choose right now‒read the final words of God’s Book.

The apostle Paul teaches, “The mind of the sinful nature is death. Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature craves” (Romans 8:6). A few of these cravings include deceitfulness, lies, arrogance, greed, addictions of all kinds, pornography, and bad sexual habits. Poor choices!

In contrast, “Those who live in accordance with the Spirit (of God) have their minds set on what the Spirit desires,” such as genuine love, righteousness, humility, godly choices, sexual purity, and truthfulness demonstrated in our lives. “The mind controlled by the Spirit is life” (Romans 8:5). One mindset brings life; the other brings death. What sounds better to you?

Here are a few contemporary issues hostile to God’s will for us:

1. Sexually transmitted infections are still rampant, according to the Center for Disease Control, and, because infected individuals are at risk (from their own lifestyle choices), the government has taken the responsibility of finding a cure. Sexual immorality obeys the mind of sinful nature. Jesus counsels, “Out of the heart come evil thoughts…sexual immorality…” (Matthew 15:19). Paul warns, “Flee from sexual immorality. The body is meant for the Lord” (I Corinthians 6:13, 18, NIV). Hide these valuable words in your heart.

2. When we decide to follow God’s way instead of planning our own agenda, we plan our final destiny. Amazingly, He fills us with contentment and surprises us every day with peace as we turn to Him.

3. We need to share God’s moral code with our family, friends, and others who want this peace. Challenging others will stir people’s curiosity and inspire them to search the claims for actual truths. It will also give Bible believer’s another opportunity to share the truth of God’s Word. We get another chance to share the truth.

Don’t jump off the planet yet. Take advantage and tell people there is hope in Jesus; a heaven to gain and a hell to shun.
